About the Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Waterwall Drilling Supervisor to oversee and manage our drilling operations in Central Africa. This critical role will be responsible for coordinating drilling activities, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations, and monitoring the progress of both onshore and offshore drilling projects. The successful candidate will work closely with drilling teams and contractors, proactively troubleshooting any issues that may arise during operations.

Responsibilities:

• Plan and organize drilling activities in close coordination with drilling engineers and contractors.
• Oversee the implementation of drilling programs, ensuring strict adherence to safety guidelines and best practices.
• Monitor drilling progress, making necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency and performance.
• Manage drilling personnel, providing effective supervision, guidance, and support.
• Collaborate effectively with other departments and stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient drilling operations.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential risks.
• Implement and champion best practices in drilling operations to continually enhance productivity and safety.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma is the minimum educational requirement.
• Extensive experience in drilling operations is essential, with a demonstrable understanding of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety practices.
• Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within the drilling industry.
• Strong knowledge of relevant industry regulations and standards, including API standards and HSE guidelines.

Brief Job Description

Job In Brief: We are looking for experienced and skilled RC (Reverse Circulation) Drilling Machine Operators to work at the highest possible standard, executing the work plans. Moving, positioning and setting up and operating of the drill, and all associated equipment at each drill site. Responsible to complete daily reports and trackers and record all consumables used during a shift as well as an ongoing inventory of all gear involved in the Drill program. Providing assistance to the Drill Sample Technician with moving, positioning and setup of the Sampling equipment. Do daily checks on all equipment that they have the proper and correct safety guards or ‘whip checks’ with particular attention to the compressor hoses and couplings. Ensuring all drill equipment, compressors/boosters and tools are kept clean, dust free and in good working order. Ensuring that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn correctly by all members of the drill crew and any other personal that are on the drill site. Reading and understanding the Drill Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

Working Conditions: The physical environment requires employees to work outside in the heat or cold, wet or humid or dry, and in remote or isolated camp conditions. This means one would need to be physically fit and strong and also to be mechanically orientated will often also work in remote locations where one can be exposed to extreme weather conditions including dust and being exposed to loud noises.

Qualification: Person would require high school diploma,. Minimum 8-10 years, experience as a Reverse Circulation Driller. Experience operating RC Drill to drill 100 Meters and deeper, Safety focused, Experience in mechanical repairs and operation.

Job description:

Operates core drilling equipment to drill holes of specified size in walls or slabs of concrete to facilitate installation and repair of utility systems and equipment: Locates and marks position for drill base, using rule and chalk.

Secures drill base to floor, using bolts and wrench.

Bolts drill stand to base, mounts drill motor on stand, and levels drill by turning screws at base of drill, using wrench.

Connects equipment to electrical outlet, and attaches water hose which supplies coolant for drill.

Attaches diamond tipped core drill to drill rod, and fastens rod in machine, using wrench and other handtools.

Starts motor and turns crank to move drill into specified drilling position.

Observes pressure gauge to maintain specified pressure on drill bit with crank.

Tapes plastic bags to finished walls to prevent water damage.

Lubricates equipment and makes minor repair, using grease gun and handtools.

·         A Driller must report to the Operations Manager daily.

The Duties and Responsibilities of a Driller are:

·         To have completed induction and be competent to perform work to the level required

·         To exercise discretion with the level of skill required to operate a drill rig

·         To be responsible for the quality of his work subject to routine supervision

·         To ensure that pre-starts and take 5 are completed before using the machinery/equipment, preform or assist with preventative maintenance when required

·         To be able to take directions from Operations Manager or Project Managers

·         To be able to multitask and assist others when required (off side fitter, load shot etc.)

·         To be able to communicate effectively with management and other employees

·         To understand and be able to implement the Company’s Mining QSE policies, procedures and standards

·         To understand that work may be required at more than one site, and to travel when required

·         To barricade and or have work area bunded and erect signage as required to make work area safe

·         As the company moves forward there are a number of key aspects of this in your position as Driller. Your role allows a degree of autonomy with a high level of responsibility reporting directly to the Workshop/Project Managers and Directors. To ensure you successfully complete your role it is vitally important you work well with the owners, administration, all team members within the company, and clients, for a cohesive and profitable operation.

As a Driller you are fully responsible for:

·         The drilling activities for Company following the QSE policies, procedures and legal requirements of certain acts

·         Downtime and machinery utilisation

Knowledge SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) and troubleshooting of drill rig is important

Should be able to use Fishing Tools, Core Orientation Tools, and Surveying Tools. Practice and enforce security standards practices. Work closely with the Geology department to optimize safe, timely drill-hole results. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to make the drilling process more productive. Work with maintenance teams to maximize the safe and efficient operation of the drill equipment.
