Group Tailings Deputy Manager

 

Location: Central Africa

 

Minimum years of Experience & Essentials:

· Min 10 Years of Experience in relevant field

·       Commercial Driver’s License

·       Ability to travel as and when required

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited curriculum, with courses in soil mechanic

Field experience in construction monitoring, quality assurance, geotechnical site investigations, soil characterization, interpretation of geotechnical lab tests, and engineering analysis on tailings materials

 

Key Responsibilities:

Performs reporting, risk assessments and auditing and observes all QHSE related activities and policies within the site

Communicate relevant information related to TSF’s and other site water retention dams to site senior management and corporate management.

Maintain all files related to TSF’s, and other site water retention dams in an organized filing system.

Assist the site environmental team on water quality, closure, and other environmental initiatives as it relates to TSF’s, and other site water retention dams.

Assist the site safety team on safety initiatives.

Review and analyse data related to dam safety, including, but not limited to:

·       Piezometers and wells

·       Survey monuments

·       Horizontal drain flows

·       Weir flows

·       Tailings line flows and pressures

·       Bathymetric survey

·       Satellite survey

·       Ground survey

·       Identify the key geotechnical causes of tailings dam failures

·       Explain tailings risk assessment methods and risk acceptability

·       Explain tailings dam/storage design

·       Discuss the key tailings geotechnical parameters

·       Explain construction and operation to ensure compliance with the design intent

Risk and tailings closure opportunities

·       Discuss closure challenges for tailings storage facilities

·       Explain capping and revegetation of tailings

·       Discuss learnings from tailings closure case studies

 

Education:

·       Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited curriculum, with courses in soil mechanics and three (10) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise, OR

·       Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering or applicable engineering discipline and two (10) years of experience in an applicable field of expertise

·       Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to a diversely educated audience.

·       Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety for yourself and others

·       Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

·       Knowledge in the principles and practices of civil, geological, geotechnical, and/or hydrologic engineering or related fields of science or engineering

•    Knowledge of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and geotechnical analysis

Sr. Engineer/Dy Manager Tailings - Central Africa

Sr. Engineer/Dy Manager Tailings

 

Experience: Big civil projects for 10-12 years

Location: Central Africa

 

Education: B.E./B.Tech (Civil)

 

The Sr. Engineer/Dy Manager Tailings will report to the Tailings Head and carry out the following tasks -

•             In cooperation with the processing departments at each site, ensure the tailings deposition systems are constructed and operated with depositional requirements

•             Overseeing interactive development of Tailing Storage Facilities final design drawings and documentation through to effective communication to the construction team

•             Overseeing that required tailings deposition infrastructure, methods and operations as well as embankment design work is completed on time and in line with operational requirements

•             Communicating all design related decisions and outcomes to the management

•             Understanding overall requirements for timing of construction activities in order to meet operational requirements

•             Managing the functions of construction quality control (CQC) activities and oversee construction quality assurance (CQA) on all TSF construction activities

•             Compilation of all required reporting including daily, weekly and monthly monitoring reports, monthly stewardship documents and annual construction reports

•             Regular monitoring of the performance of any geotechnical structures, observing and reporting on effectiveness of maintenance of all TSF facilities

•             Reporting the superiors if medium or long term filling plans need adjustment

•             Verifying that operational freeboard (including factors of safety), storm water channels and access routes are properly maintained  and reporting to Operations management any remedial actions that are required

•             Managing the TSF risk register which includes identifying risks with operations and stakeholders throughout the mine life cycle, developing corrective actions to mitigate risk and monitor implementation of corrective actions.

• Shall be the background of earthen dam experience and HDPE lining work exposure

• Completion Testing, documentation, HDPE Liner welding checking

• Understanding of safety norms

• Review, design, construction and remediation of tailings structures at all stages of the project, including pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design and construction stages. Undertaking desk-based studies utilizing data and information from a variety of sources.

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules

• The candidate will be required to work closely with the Tailings Engineering team and Engineer of Record, Tailings Operations Team, long-range planner, Mill Operations and the dam contractor.

• Communicate effectively with other trades supervisors/planners/schedulers and ensure efficient dam construction

• Participate in regular meetings with the Tailings &Water, Mill Operations and Maintenance, Dam Contractor Project Manager, and Engineering Consultants to establish priorities, cost forecasts, opportunities for improvement, etc.

• Prepare customized operational reports and project schedules as required/requested.

• Investigate and introduce new mining and construction technology applications and innovations.
