 Ball Mill Operator – Zinc Plant

Location: Central Africa

Department: Mineral Processing / Beneficiation Plant
Reporting To: Shift Engineer

Key Responsibilities

1. Ball Mill Operation

• Operate and monitor Metso Ball Mill and associated grinding equipment for zinc ore processing.
• Maintain consistent feed rate, optimal speed, and proper ball charge to achieve target particle size.
• Adjust mill parameters to meet metallurgical objectives and throughput targets.

2. Process Monitoring & Control

• Track key operating parameters, including motor load, pressure, slurry density, and flow rate.
• Maintain detailed operational logs and report process deviations to the control team.
• Work alongside process engineers to enhance recovery rates and minimize material losses.

3. Auxiliary Equipment Handling

• Operate and inspect supporting systems such as hydro cyclones, screw classifiers, rotary screens, and DD screens.
• Identify signs of wear, blockages, or mechanical failure and report maintenance requirements.

4. Quality Control & Coordination

• Ensure ground material quality meets metallurgical lab specifications.
• Assist in sampling, sample preparation, and continuous process optimization.
• Collaborate with the metallurgical team to improve grinding efficiency and product recovery.

5. Safety & Workplace Hygiene

• Strictly adhere to plant safety protocols and mandatory PPE requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and safe working conditions in and around the mill, pump stations, and control panels.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses promptly.

6. Documentation & Reporting

• Accurately record shift-wise production data, equipment performance, and operational logs.
• Provide reports on downtime occurrences and maintenance needs.

Qualifications & Experience

📚 Education:

• ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mineral Processing.

🧪 Experience:

• 3 to 5 years in grinding circuit operations, preferably in a zinc/lead beneficiation plant.

💡 Technical Knowledge:

• Familiarity with RHMS systems and slurry circuits.
• Experience with SCADA or DCS-controlled process environments.
• Understanding of ore beneficiation, particularly sulphide ores.

🌟 Desirable Skills:

• Strong observation and troubleshooting abilities.
• Effective communication and coordination with control room and maintenance teams.
• Familiarity with shutdown maintenance and preventive inspections.
