Plant Manager / Process Engineer (Flotation, Leaching, SX-EW, Roasting)

Reports to: Operations Director/General Manager/Business Head

Location: Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Plant Manager/Process Engineer to oversee all operational aspects of our processing plant , DRC. The plant utilizes Flotation, Leaching, Solvent Extraction and Electrowinning (SX-EW), and Roasting processes to achieve a production target of 1200 tonnes of copper cathode per year. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team and ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective production while adhering to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop and implement strategic plant plans aligned with business objectives, focusing on continuous improvement in efficiency, productivity, and cost reduction.
• Production Management: Oversee daily plant operations, including production scheduling, process optimization, troubleshooting, and achieving the 1200 T/year Cu cathode production target in close collaboration with process management.
• Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of production staff, maintenance personnel, and quality control specialists. Foster a positive and productive work environment, providing training, development opportunities, and performance feedback.
• Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): Champion a strong safety culture and ensure strict adherence to all relevant HSE regulations, company policies, and best practices. Implement and maintain robust safety programs to minimize workplace incidents.
• Quality Assurance & Control: Implement and maintain rigorous quality control processes throughout the production chain to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer specifications and industry standards. Implement corrective actions as needed.
• Cost Optimization & Budget Management: Develop and manage the plant budget, monitor expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements in labor, materials, energy, and overhead.
• Maintenance & Reliability: Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance strategy (preventive, predictive, and corrective) to maximize plant uptime, minimize downtime, and ensure the reliability and longevity of equipment.
• Inventory Management: Oversee inventory control of raw materials, consumables, and finished goods to optimize working capital and ensure uninterrupted production.
• Reporting & Performance Analysis: Provide regular and accurate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including production volumes, quality metrics, cost analysis, safety statistics, and maintenance performance. Analyze data to identify trends, opportunities for improvement, and potential risks.
• Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., management, sales, procurement) and external stakeholders (e.g., suppliers, contractors, regulatory agencies).

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. A Master's degree is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in plant management or operations management within a hydrometallurgical and/or pyrometallurgical processing environment, preferably involving Flotation, Leaching, SX-EW, and Roasting processes. Experience in copper cathode production is highly desirable.
• Skills:
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to manage and motivate teams.
• Deep understanding of hydrometallurgical and/or pyrometallurgical processes.
• Proficiency in process optimization, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
• Knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices.
• Budget management and cost control experience.
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Fluency in English is essential. French or other relevant languages are a plus.
