General Manager – Ore Dressing
Location: Central Africa
Position Overview
The General Manager – Ore Dressing will lead the ore
beneficiation and upgradation operations, with a focus on copper, zinc, and
lead flotation plants. The role requires a deep understanding of mineralogy,
process design, and plant operations, ensuring optimal recovery and efficiency
in line with the region’s high-grade ore deposits. The GM will report
directly to the Sr. Director – Projects & Technology.
Key Responsibilities
Mineralogy & Process Interpretation:
- Analyze
and interpret mineralogical studies to guide beneficiation strategies and
process flowsheets.
- Apply
mineralogical insights to optimize ore upgradation and flotation plant
performance.
Test Work Design & Execution:
- Design
and develop procedures for bench-scale and pilot-scale test work5.
- Supervise
and interpret test work findings, translating them into actionable
process improvements.
Commercial Plant Conceptualization:
- Use
bench and pilot-scale results to conceptualize and design commercial ore
beneficiation plants.
- Oversee
the transition from pilot to commercial scale, ensuring process
scalability and robustness.
Plant Stabilization & Troubleshooting:
- Lead
stabilization efforts and troubleshoot operational challenges in
commercial plants.
- Implement
corrective actions to resolve metallurgical and operational bottlenecks.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise
technical teams, fostering a culture of safety, innovation, and
continuous improvement.
- Mentor
junior engineers and ensure knowledge transfer across the department.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepare
technical reports, feasibility studies, and process documentation5.
- Ensure
compliance with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards and
regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Master’s
degree in Chemical Engineering with specialization in Ore Beneficiation or
Mineral Processing.
- 20–25
years’ experience in ore upgradation and flotation plants, with a strong
track record in copper, zinc, and lead beneficiation.
- Proven
expertise in mineralogical analysis, process design, and plant operations.
- Experience
in scaling up processes from laboratory to commercial scale.
- Strong
leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Desirable Skills:
- In-depth
knowledge of mineral processing equipment and process control systems.
- Familiarity
with the geology and ore characteristics of the Central African Copperbelt
is an advantage.
- Experience
working in multicultural and challenging environments.
