Qualification & Experience:
B.Com/M.com/MBA (Finance) with 7 years of experience in Finance and accounts
Minimum 3 years’ experience of project accounting with any EPC industry or construction project
Preferably presently working in or worked earlier east or central Africa
Main purpose of the job:
· To provide a comprehensive Project Accounting service on the on-going Civil construction & other EPC turnkey projects to ensure robust financial systems are in place and serviced throughout the lifecycle of the projects
· To provide an effective reporting link between the Project team and the Finance Department
· To deliver a highly professional service to all stakeholders
Main Responsibilities:
Contract & cost management:
· Manage all financial processes ensuring confidentiality, accurate and timely record keeping and data management
· Process all income and costs, ensuring correct coding, authorisation, and transaction management
· Set up and manage Project cash flows
· Work closely with external Project Managers to create comprehensive financial plans and track progress as the project advances
· Maintain sufficient contract documentation and check that payments made are in line with contractual terms
· Manage the overheads associated with the Project Team including staff costs
· Ensure costs are correctly allocated to Capital Project costs and respective Revenue generating projects
· Control and reconcile designated balance sheet accounts on monthly basis
· Liaise with the external Project Manager and cost consultant to keep up to date and have sufficient detail on work in progress to plan and manage costs effectively
· Plan for and manage internal project costs including furniture, equipment and artist hoardings
· Maintain and monitor fixed asset inventory register
Reporting:
· Produce cash movement and liquidity statements on daily basis
· Produce monthly finance reports for the project team, to agreed timetables, showing budget, forecast, committed and actual performance against plan, with breakdown of costs and written commentary
· Ensure project budgets and plans are kept up to date to reflect progress and changes to assumptions, including any reforecast as required
· Maintain detailed records as required for both internal and external audit purposes
· Take responsibility for preparation of all financial and non-financial information required for project sponsors, project managers, Project Board, Trustees and external funders as required in both routine reporting and ad hoc requests
· Support managers at all levels to discharge their responsibilities.
KPI’s:
· Management of robust financial controls and accounting systems
· Delivery of comprehensive financial reports to required standard, format and timelines.
· Effective relationship management with Project team, Finance team and all key stakeholders
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
· Sufficient accounting experience in a busy, tightly managed medium sized business, including: monthly reporting, budget preparation, financial modelling and cash flow reporting
· Extensive experience of computerised accounting systems, preferably ERP
· Experience of managing preparation of monthly management reports and delivery of
· Analysis.
· Strong spreadsheet manipulation skills and advanced Excel work
· A meticulous and methodical approach
· Ability to identify and create improvements in reporting in line with project needs
· Good track record in delivering accurate, high quality work and reports to deadlines and to required standards
· Consistent performance under pressure
· High standard of written and verbal English
· Flexible approach to work, willing to play a full role in ensuring the success of the team
