Objective:
The Group Tailings Deputy Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team to ensure optimal allocation of workloads and efficient day-to-day operations in vehicle maintenance workshops. This role emphasizes productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness within the department while ensuring high standards of quality and customer satisfaction. The position involves coordination of resources and close liaison with internal and external stakeholders to deliver work on time and in accordance with set quality standards.
Reporting To: Group QHSE Country Head
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with coursework in Soil Mechanics, or a Master’s in Geotechnical/Civil/related Engineering discipline
Minimum 10 years of relevant field experience
Commercial Driver’s License
Willingness and ability to travel as required
Field experience in construction monitoring, quality assurance, geotechnical site investigations, soil characterization, geotechnical lab tests interpretation, and tailings material engineering analysis
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and supervise workshop teams, allocating workloads and managing daily operations
Conduct risk assessments, audits, and ensure adherence to QHSE policies and site procedures
Maintain organized records for Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) and site water retention dams
Collaborate with environmental teams on water quality, closure plans, and TSF-related initiatives
Partner with safety teams to enhance site safety programs and compliance
Analyze data related to dam safety (including piezometers, wells, survey monuments, drains, weirs, tailings lines, bathymetric/satellite/ground surveys)
Identify and explain key geotechnical causes for tailings dam failures
Perform risk assessments and communicate risk acceptability pertaining to tailings facilities
Discuss tailings dam/storage design, key geotechnical parameters, and compliance during construction and operation
Evaluate closure plans, capping, and revegetation for tailings facilities
Compile lessons learned from tailings closure case studies
Skills & Competencies (KSA):
Expert project management skills for tailings management and similar operations
Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and geotechnical analysis software
In-depth knowledge of civil, geological, geotechnical, and/or hydrologic engineering principles
Strong ethical standards, business acumen, and financial management ability
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences
Strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Commitment to safety practices and hazard recognition
