Project Manager – Wind Projects

Role Overview
Our client is expanding its renewable energy footprint and
is seeking a pioneering Project Manager for Wind Projects. As we
currently look to build internal expertise in wind energy, this individual will
be the subject matter expert responsible for investigating wind potential
across various geographies, identifying prospective opportunities, and leading
projects from feasibility through to commissioning.
The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with a solid
technical background in wind turbine systems and a proven track record of
managing EPC firms and site execution in emerging markets.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Project Development & Feasibility
- Conduct
comprehensive site surveys, soil testing, and geotechnical analyses to
identify high-potential wind regions.
- Lead
feasibility studies for project sites, developing technical layouts,
project budgets, and viable implementation plans.
- Identify
and evaluate tender opportunities, particularly within African regions
(DRC, Zambia, etc.), and spearhead proposal development.
2. Engineering & Technical Supervision
- Collaborate
with engineering teams on basic layouts, turbine placement, foundation
details, and grid interconnection.
- Supervise
all civil works (roads, foundations), electrical groundwork, and turbine
installation.
- Ensure
90% turbine installation and successful grid tie-in within project
timelines.
3. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Liaise
with procurement to define technical specifications and evaluate supplier
bids.
- Manage
vendor development and finalize contracts for long-lead items (turbines,
components).
- Coordinate
crane mobilization and on-site material delivery schedules.
4. Project Governance & QHSE
- Establish
MIS reporting and project dashboards to track monthly plan vs. actuals
(Target: <5% variance).
- Implement
and oversee QHSE (Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment) protocols and
HSE plans on-site.
- Manage
comprehensive project documentation, including technical drawings and
inspection records.
Candidate Profile
Technical Skills & Expertise
- Core
Knowledge: Deep understanding of wind turbine technology, foundations,
and electrical/grid systems.
- Software
Proficiency: Skilled in CAD, MS Project, or Primavera.
- Field
Expertise: Experience in crane operations, site assessments, and
commissioning protocols.
- Financial
Acumen: Sound knowledge of project costing methodologies and budget
adherence.
Experience & Education
- Experience:
6 to 8 years of total experience, with at least 3–5 years specifically
in wind project execution or site supervision.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Renewable Energy
Engineering. (Master’s or PMP certification preferred).
- Industry
Background: Experience in Renewables or Oil & Gas construction,
preferably with EPC firms.
- Age
Bracket: Ideally 35–45 years.
Soft Skills & Language
- Strong
interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills.
- Proactive
problem-solver with high attention to detail.
- Languages:
Fluent English is mandatory. Working knowledge of French or Swahili
is a significant advantage given our geographic focus.

Days: Complete initial site visits, soil testing, and MIS setup.

Days: Secure site approvals, finalize procurement, and sign supplier

Year: Successfully identify 3 sites, win 2 contracts, and initiate
active engineering.
